beat series

I was finally able to find singles 1-6 of the 7x7 beat series, which is all i have been listening to the past month. mostly unknown producers, but surely a new palette to add to hip-hop..no fuck that...for music in general. short, wet, icicle-dripped, r&b songs that just make me want to nod my head. some work from producers i have never heard before, and some which i listen to on a daily basis. i like the direction these guys are headed.

...I forgot: Black Lips last night was some fun rock and roll

who knew a couple of idiot goofballs could rock and roll like that?

No sleep...

I dont think I will be going to a festival promoted by E-tards, washed-up DJ's, or techno-induced seizures any time soon. Lovefest for some reason was fun last year, but this year all I could focus on was the brightly colored neo-hippies who for the most part fashioned themselves a mix between rainbow bright, anime characters, and creatures you used to watch on television when you were a kid...oh and I can't forget the number of people who felt being nude was comfortable for that kind of occasion..good for them, not good for us. After the nausea induced pulsing of one repetitive beat after another, I decided it was time to head home. Two hours later (human traffic hell) I quickly convinced everyone out of the after party, which would have been exactly like the day festival, only with louder techno and more creepy, bright colored, eyes rolled to the back drug addicts, who I had been repelled from before. Instead we ended up at the supper club, which might I say was one hell of a difference. Gone were the annoying, pre-pubescent little e-tards that I had wanted so hard to get away from. Here we had a place to lose your shit and lay on a bed if you should get tired. Yes the entire place was lined wall to wall with awesomely huge bed mattresses from floor to floor. Awesome. Oh and it helped that Drop the Lime is the dirtiest, sickest DJ to come out of Italy/New York City. Lesson learned: no more lovefest. Beds in clubs are a must

there is a little blood in my ears

there is no band past or present that is louder than my bloody valentine. i have never gone somewhere where earplugs are handed out as a safety requirement (of course i didnt wear mine). dangerously loud. no, wait, loud is a huge understatement. a 10,000 person venue that looked like an airplane hangar, was not enough room for the kind of fluttering, swirling, thick as electricity, violently beautiful melodies Kevin Shields manipulates with guitars over the entire show. the closing 15-minute guitar feedback was so ear-piercingly, deafening, and roaringly awesome, people from surrounding bars and apartments DOWN THE BLOCK stood outside wondering what the hell was happening around them. the best thing i have ever experienced...ever.

Seeya later Tenderloin

no more 3 a.m. stabbings, no more gunshots to wake me up, no more homeless asking me for change, no more crackheads scurrying around like squirrels, no more stepping on broken crack pipes, no more looking over my shoulders for the motherfuckers that put a gun to my head and robbed me, no more having my jackets smell like chinese food from the restaurant below. I'm out.

HAUNTED GRAFFITI

9 out of 10 times I find myself listened to something Ariel Pink has worked on, collaborated with, or played with live. It does no justice to say how extremely lively you will feel yourself begin to get when once Haunted Graffiti begins to groove...and believe me they groove pretty good. Can't wait to move to Los Angeles and see them perform down there.

Click on link and listen to a song that you must see performed live.

MTL -> LDN -> GLASGOW

Jesse Morash...I hope those codes are working out. I got a sudden burst of adrenaline...moving soon and hanging with my missed friend...but what we really need to do is hit up Montreal for some lazerbass-induced bridge burners, then fly to London for some subbed dubbed out shit, and make a final stop at Glasgow for the blowin up aqua crunk shit going down over there. Arrive in Los Angeles and go straight fucking turbo. How can I make money and travel at the same time...any ideas?

Circle - Miljard

Isn't it great, when you discover an album you forgot you had only to have it remind you of where you were and what you were doing when you first listened to it? in this case it was Los Angeles, driving in the rain with the carpet of my car smelling like different types of carpet cleaner and air fresheners. This album takes me back to very stoned/cold days where all I care to do is lay in bed and listen to the rain outside my window.

Anyone interested in the works of Aaron Turner, Stephen Kasner, or Dwid Hellion should check out The Catalyst showing at Fifty24SF on 250 Fillmore St. Lots of original album artwork, wall paintings, grotesquely curious drawings, and a computer generated acid trip of a skull.
